Karma may have first appeared in the Buddhist and Vedic texts thousands of years ago, but that does not mean that karma was merely invented by mortal men. Like the law of attraction, karma is one of the most primal forces and laws of the Universe.


It is not imagined nor is it just a philosophical lesson. Karma is as real as the sun and the moon and as powerful as the fierce forces of nature. Karma represents the Universe’s hand in the affairs of man.

It is also the shining portal where abundant gifts from the Universe can pass through and reach the deserving ones who walk the Earth. For the longest time, modern has thought of karma in terms of curses and misfortune.

When there is an accident, someone might say “that is just bad karma”. When a student fails his exam, a teacher might think along the lines of “that is karma at work”. In short, modern man only knows karma as this horrible bringer of misfortune, destruction and sometimes even death.

The truth is that karma operates like other natural forces in the Universe, like the Law of Attraction or gravity.

Karma doesn’t pick out people to bless or curse. It doesn’t behave like a person would, having biases and what not.

This was probably my biggest mistake a long time ago when I first encountered the concept of karma in my studies. For the longest time I had thought that karma was just this random concept that didn’t have any real effect on my life. I had ignored it, never really thinking of how it could have helped me tremendously during the toughest times in my life…

One summer day, more than 10 years ago I experienced the kindness of strangers in the face of a very difficult and sudden personal crisis. And in that short period of time I realized that there was something much bigger than all of us that was working, unseen, guiding and helping us along.

If this unseen force was non-existent, I don’t think I would have had the fortune of experiencing the kindness of complete strangers. At that moment in time, my interest in karma increased a hundredfold. I was hungry for more knowledge about this mysterious force that was working endlessly to determine our fates and fortune.

The majority of people think that karma is a destructive force that knows no bounds – as if it exists only to punish and destroy people.

The truth cannot be farther from this common misconception. The truth is that karma simply distributes positivity and negativity based on what a person has said and done.

By “independently” I simply mean that karma follows specific rules. These rules have been studied by scholars, ascetics, philosophers and spiritual teachers over the past few centuries.
