A few years ago I answered yes to all those questions. You see I had just encountered bonsai trees for the first time at a gardening exhibition. I was wandering around the displays when I saw a dozen tiny trees in one corner of the marquee.

I was fascinated and couldn’t stop staring at them. I thought they were so beautiful but had no idea what they were called or how they had been grown. But one thing I did know – I wanted to learn more about them and one day to grow them myself.

Since then I have experienced the frustration of trying to find the information and help that I needed to grow beautiful bonsai trees.

One thing’s for sure – lack of information is not the problem. If you enter ‘bonsai trees’ in an internet search engine you get millions of results – literally!

What good is that for a busy person who doesn’t have time to click on them all and work out what’s going to be most helpful? I found a ton of information – a lot of it dealing with advanced techniques and using language and jargon that isn’t in the normal person’s vocabulary!

So I confess that I was struggling. But then I had some good fortune. I came across a person who had been a bonsai enthusiast for many years. He was very knowledgeable, but more than that, he was hugely enthusiastic and willing to share his wisdom and experience of bonsai.

I learnt such a lot in a short space of time. He understood that I didn’t need to be lectured on every advanced bonsai technique.

Well, I got the answers to all these questions. I found good reference material in books and on the internet. I was able to watch him and other bonsai experts working on their trees and applying the techniques in practice. And I developed my own skills by working on bonsai trees myself.

The whole learning experience was a real joy and it was great to become part of a ‘worldwide bonsai family’. The thrill of fashioning and creating a beautiful bonsai is amazing and very rewarding.

Being a keen student I was careful to make lots of notes about all the knowledge I gained and the tips and secrets that I learnt.

One day I was chatting (enthusiastically!) to a friend of mine about bonsai trees. I told him the story of how I became interested in bonsai and the frustrations that I had faced in trying to get help to grow bonsai trees.

But then I thought about how much help I had received from others. To be honest, I probably would have given up without it. And because I didn’t want that to happen to anyone else I decided to take him up on the challenge. So that’s how Beautiful Bonsai Secrets came into existence.

If you are interested in bonsai I would like to help you develop this fascinating hobby. I want to pass on to you all the tips, hints and secrets that I have learnt over the years.

My first aim was to create an introductory eBook that would teach the novice everything that is necessary for growing beautiful bonsai trees without being too wordy.

My second aim was to create an eBook that could also function as a valuable resource that more experienced cultivators of bonsai trees could come back to again and again for good solid advice.

In order to convey how fun and relaxing growing Bonsai is as a hobby I have gone to great lengths to write this eBook in a friendly, and easy to understand style. I believe in being to the point, positive and educational without being boring.
