Now, if you’re anything like me I am quite skeptical when it comes to anything I see online. I always want to know some background information and credentials about the source of the information to put my mind at ease. So if you’re a skeptic (which is totally normal and healthy) then here is a little bit about me …
Hi, my name is Mike Hayes, I’m a Professional Guitarist and most importantly, a teacher of Guitar. I ‘ve been playing guitar for the majority of my life. I started at the age of 13 years old playing for concerts, country dances and parties. Maintaining a healthy balance of ‘street smarts’ and formal education, I have studied arranging and composition from Berklee College, Boston USA and recording engineering with Peter Miller – former producer for the Beatles (Audio Institute, San Francisco USA).
My teaching methods are legendary and have earned the praise of top authorities in guitar instruction.
I’ve had the thrill of having my music officially listed alongside industry heavy-weights like Michael Jackson, Tracy Chapman and Lionel Richie in the 31st Grammy Awards ballot "Best Instrumental" category.
Unfortunately, good guitar players don’t necessarily make good teachers, just as 95% of people who teach the guitar do not actually have proof of their own success before teaching you their theories, most have never performed LIVE on stage or in a professional recording studio.
From #1 hit’s on the UK charts to back-up guitarist’s for artists like Roxy Music, Casey Chambers and Amity Affliction our students can be regularly seen and heard on NATIONAL radio and Television working side by side with successful established performers!!!
Over the years I’ve worked with the best all the big names particularly on guitar: Joe Pass, Barney Kessel, Herb Ellis, Charlie Byrd, Martin Taylor, John Williams… great jazz musicians like Dizzy Gillispie, Stan Getz, Frank Sinatra …
… apart from being a very accomplished performer, Mike has all of the teaching skills, and most importantly of all … he has the ability to pass them on! A motto that’s stood me in good stead throughout my life has been "You can’t learn flying from a guy who has never been off the ground" and I can assure you that Mike has really been off the ground, and I’m sure that you will benefit from his skills."
In a world where most guitarist’s have difficulty reading standard music notation here is Phil Emmanuel’s comment on Mike’s five piece guitar ensemble
