Whether you’re traveling to Thailand for business or pleasure, there’s a faster and easier way to learn the Thai alphabet, and set you on the way to reading Thai.
Our accelerated teaching aids on learning the Thai alphabet makes it so much easier to read, to follow and to learn than other traditional books on Thai. Our approach uses a logical method that works in your web browser and on your iPad.
The first part to understanding Thai is to visually recognize the different types of consonants in use. As part of learning these consonants, you have to learn the sound or sounds that they make and you have to learn their consonant class. All consonants belong to one of three classes:
It will take you a while to learn the basics, but once your brain recognizes certain Thai character patterns, then reading basic Thai words, then Thai signs, and so on, becomes much easier and more fun.
Most people find that a root canal is a lot less painful than learning how to read and understand Thai.
Like our book Memory Aids to Your Great Adventure, the Learn Thai Alphabet app uses a short set of visuals that teach your brain how to instantly apply the Thai tones to the consonants.
While you’re learning the consonants and vowels, we also have a great way of learning the Thai Tones and the tone rules:
Our system takes about 20 minutes to learn and once you start training your brain what to look for, learning how to read Thai becomes fun and easier to retain.
You get our accelerated learning visual aids that will let your brain classify commonly used Thai characters into groups or buckets. Once we teach your brain how to spot them, reading Thai becomes smoother, easier and faster.
Moving onto vowels, we group these into simple ones and complex ones. Each grid includes a clear, phonetic way for you to practice speaking them which will make it easier to remember and how to form words and sentence structure with greater ease… and accuracy.
We also give you sample audio of native Thai speakers speaking the sounds, on the very page you have the vowel: this way the sound is embedded and associated with the picture and you are then using different senses at the same time to embed this knowledge.
After this, you then get cards to help you learn the tone marks, the punctuation, the numbers and the other signs that are used in Thai script.
The visual aids we use in the app are intuitive and, with the “digital flash cards,” will have you learning the Thai application in record time.
Instead of relying on our graphic charts, our Thai app uses digital flash cards which have all the information you need to learn the consonants, vowels and other parts of the Thai alphabet.
We use shapes and characters to help your brain associate a consonant, a vowel, a tone mark, etc., with a picture and, with the consonants, one of the classes.
Practice with these digital flash cards and your brain picks up the pattern recognition and you learn the shapes, the sounds, and the classes which helps embed this knowledge much faster than with any other language learning tools.
You also get stepped-testing where we test you at every stage, so you learn the Middle class consonants, before you start learning the High class consonants: it makes no sense to do it any other way. The Thai alphabet is unlike the Roman alphabet, in the consonants and vowels are learnt separately and it’s rarely worth learning vowels before you’ve learnt the consonants.
If you’re serious about learning Thai is a fun interactive manner, then don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity.
I don’t mean whether you’re going to buy the app or not, what I mean is what’s your next step after learning the alphabet? If it isn’t ‘to start reading Thai.” I’d be very surprised. Now, I hate to diss fellow authors and people who have written various books on the subject, but the vast majority of these ‘materials’ (books, web pages, websites, etc.) DON’T TEACH YOU TO READ THAI. They don’t.
What they do show you is the consonants, the vowels, and so forth (everything that makes up this application) – but they rarely go any further: they don’t teach you how to break down a Thai sentence, how to find the word break, the individual syllables, and what you really need to learn to read Thai – we do!
With an entire section on reading Thai, we show you step-by-step, how to start reading. When I started learning, it took me ages after I had learnt the alphabet, to actually read my first paragraph in a children’s book: I had no idea on how to break the sentence down, to identify words and spent more time poring over the dictionary, than looking at the text.
When you are a beginner, you have zero vocabulary – none; and, as every word is new, there aren’t any spaces in the sentences, and you have no knowledge of how to do this, it was – and is – a very slow process – VERY SLOW.
We have an entire section on this, and show you in the simplest manner, the entire thought process of how to read Thai:
You now know that when you get our app, not only will you learn the alphabet, but you will learn to read Thai as well.
Note: the app is web-based, you do not download it to your pc – it requires an Internet connection at all times.
