If you’ve ever wanted to throw a theme party so fabulous your guests enjoy every minute there and rave about it for months. . . then this is going to be the most important message you’ve ever read!
Whenever I throw a party, the main worry that goes through my head the entire time is, "I hope everybody is having a good time!" I begin worrying about this issue way before the actual party date. In fact, I start worrying about it as soon as I set the date — and sometimes even before then. I really don’t want to give a party that’s a flop! I completely focus on the "fun factor" and want all of my friends to thoroughly enjoy themselves the entire time they are guests at my theme parties. That is always my #1 goal!
I’m sure you’ve all been to theme parties that were just . . . well . . . kind of boring. You arrive, and you don’t know anybody – or everyone seems busy talking with others they know, and that doesn’t include you. The decor consists of a couple of streamers, paper plates and balloons in matching colors. Only half of the guests come in costume, or aren’t participating in the activities the host and hostess have planned. There is just no spirit of fun or camaraderie in the gathering! Then, another disappointment — the food is only so-so. You get the idea — something’s missing. It’s the type of party you wished you’d never gone to, and are eager to make an excuse to get out of there!
That very night I made up my mind to learn everything I could about throwing killer theme parties! I never ever wanted to have that sinking feeling in my stomach again — no matter what party or event I was throwing!
Fortunately, my husband is a professional comedy entertainer. So from that day on, when he got home from work (which of course, includes entertaining at any and all types of parties) he would share with me the absolute coolest party ideas, decorations, food, games, music, and special party touches he’d seen at the event. I would actually "debrief" him and have him tell me exactly what the host and hostess had done to make their theme party stand out from the average, run-of-the-mill party. I started writing down all of these ideas in a notebook to use the next time we were going to throw a party.
Well, this idea and resource list just kept growing and growing! The one notebook turned into a file drawer full, and then took over an entire file cabinet! Friends began calling me when they needed ideas and/or resources for their theme parties . . . and the rest is history. (This is also how I realized people could really benefit from a book on how to throw successful theme parties.)
Since then, my husband and I have made use of these resources many times over. We have thrown many fun-filled and memorable theme parties over the last 20+ years! To name just a few — a Baby Party (for adults), a Backwards Party, a Rockin’ Over The Hill Party, a Retro Road Rally, and a Tacky Party.
